Magrath is a newer neighbourhood in south Edmonton built from the mid-late 1990s until about the mid 2000s. There are options for every one here – prices of homes in Magrath range from just under $250,000 to over $1.5 million. Average homes are just over 2000 ft2. There is a shopping centre at the north west corner of the neighbourhood. It has a grocery store, a drug store, a liquor store, a bank and a few restaurants. Neighbourhoods adjacent to Magrath are MacTaggart to the east and south and Hodgson to the north.

Location

Magrath is a strangely shaped neighbourhood. It should be noted that at the time of writing, the neighboruhood boundaries on Google are incorrect and the south corner of Magrath is tagged as Mactaggart, but it is not. MacTaggart is the southern boundary of Magrath, but it also extends to the river valley at its south east tip. Rabbit Hill Road is the western boundary of the neighbourhood, whereas the river valley is the eastern boundary. The northern edge of the communits runs up to 23rd Avenue.

There are no schools in this neighbourhood. There is one right across MacTaggart Drive, however at 4110 MacTaggart Drive – Nellie Carlson School – which is a kindergarten through grade 9 school.

Parks & Recreation

The community has a park at its centre – Magrath Park. It is quite large and interestingly has been left forested, which is rare for an Edmonton park. It has a playground and some green space as well. A walkway attaches it to the river valley.

Garages are really common in Magrath – most of them attached front facing units. This helps with parking concerns.

Parking is not so bad in the community, because there are  some long side streets that allow for parking and some lots are wide enough to accommodate extra vehicles.

Access for Magrath is actually quite good for a new neighbourhood. There are 11 roads that allow access to the area – one for every 90 homes. That should make getting into and out of the neighbourhood pretty good.

Transit To and From Magrath Heights

There are 14 bus stops in Magrath – one for every 71 homes. This is pretty decent and should make a potential walk to the bus pretty short.
