What is a Double Garage?

A double garage is a garage that fits two cars. There is no strict size limit for a double car garage, but often a minimum of 20 feet by 20 feet (outside dimensions) is met by builders. It is not common for a double garage to be much wider or longer than 30 feet. Otherwise, often it would be made into a triple garage or even a quadruple garage.

Real Estate Agent Explains Double Garages

Not all double garages are created equal. The orientation of a garage is not always specified so check out photos on a listing to be sure if the garage is a side-by-side garage (the most common kind found) or a tandem garage.

Why Does It Matter?

Most new houses in Edmonton have attached double garages these days. Often families have two cars, and home buyers usually like to park inside. Knowing what kind of garage a house has is an important factor in determining whether a home is suitable or not. A tandem garage is much different than a side-by-side garage when it comes to convenience. To learn more about garage sizes, check out my article Buyers Beware – Is That Garage Going To Work?
